Weaning Support in Newcastle & Northumberland: FAQs

Is there a private weaning specialist in Newcastle & Northumberland who does home visits?
Yes. Learn to Feed offers private weaning support across Newcastle & Northumberland, including Blyth, Morpeth, Whitley Bay and Newcastle city centre, with home visits, nursery visits and online sessions, depending on therapist availability. Our therapists are HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapists specialising in infant feeding. A weaning support session is £150 in person or £90 online. Get in touch to book.
When should my baby move on from smooth purees?
Current NHS guidance is to offer finger foods alongside smooth purees early on, and to move on to mashed and lumpier textures as soon as your baby is ready, from around 6 to 7 months. Staying on very smooth purees for too long can make lumps harder to accept later. If your baby gags, refuses or vomits with lumpier textures, we'll assess their oral skills and sensory responses and help you move forward step by step.
